Thoughts on Thursday- SHOP TIL YOU DROP!!!!!!!

Y'all.  As I get back into blogging, I must admit I am bored to pieces by a lot of my blogs that are in my feed.

I've talked about this before, but I would love to read a post that doesn't include any directives on what to buy, buy, buy.  Where do people put all these dresses and shoes? Where do they wear all of it?  I don't understand.  Or, possibly if I wore something other than yoga pants and a fleece 4 days a week, I would! Ha!

Maybe I just get grumpy during a ShopBop or Nordstrom sale.  Maybe it's because I like to shop, so I don't need someone to tell me what to buy.  Maybe it's because I like to read about people's lives outside the dressing room.

I think the problem is that I feel like I am being sold a falsehood.  Affiliate linking and undisclosed sponsorship/partnerships have become so pervasive that I feel like so much social media is just an advertisement. "MUST HAVE!"  "MY FAVORITE!" products rotate monthly or even weekly, and suspiciously appear on a variety of bloggers' want lists simultaneously.

Now, to my social media friends who have posted about this sale or that sale.  Don't be angry at me.  I love you!  I just want to read more you and less RewardStyle.  I love hearing about someone's (non-sponsored) latest workout, or amazing dinner, or supper club, or new curtains in their living room.

Just not a million pictures of them in a dressing room with cute dresses that I should go grab right now!  Because I'm not going to drop everything, scurry out of my office or the school pick up to drive over to LOFT.  Let's be real- they have a 40-60% off sale every other day.  I will live if I don't add another super cute drop waist poly blend dress to my wardrobe this minute.

Tell me a funny story about your three year old.  Tell me about the fun party you went to this weekend.  Then once a week or so, tell me about your latest purchase.  An actual purchase, not just something you tried on then never wear again.  Something you just tried that you can't affiliate link.

Bring back reality!

Well, maybe I shouldn't go down the anti-reality rabbit hole of "curated" images and false presentations of perfect motherhood and children, amazing bodies and effortless, well everything. . . y'all will hear me ranting for days!

Anyway, I guess I just miss the blogging days of yore.  This grandma better go put in her teeth and chill in my rocker some.

  1. 80% of the blogs in my feed are dressing room snaps (that they put on insta as well) and I'm bored by it too. I totally will click and buy the instant pot or a dress you linked if it looks great to me but the incessant "click-bait" posts are getting old.

  2. Bravo! I feel the same way!! Thank you for continuing to be a breath of real fresh air in the world of blogging! I am always so happy to see a new post from you!

  3. PREACH:) I do like a good beauty or accessory post, but the dressing room posts really make me think they aren't even buying the stuff..... It's just a ploy for clicks.

  4. Gotta make that money, honey! ;) I completely agree. That's why it's been great to see posts from you lately! It's refreshing to hear about someone's life without affiliate links. Wouldn't you just love to know how much the Loft is kicking back to these women? Their stuff is not that cute but those ladies are selling it HARD. And all. the. damn.time. Better be some good money is all I'm saying...

  5. Thank you! I also think it really shows what some value- things vs experiences. Time and time again research shows that experiences bring you more lasting happiness! Not clothes you will consign in the next few months! Really wish these bloggers would be more family focused, the consumerism is just sickening! Plus, with two nice incomes in our household I could not imagine spending that on clothing in a month! But a 16 day trip to Europe last fall- yes please! To each their own but it’s so over done and tiring to read about!

  6. Amen! So glad you said this. So many blog and intsagram posts seem fake. I really enjoy reading your blog because you seem relatable!

  7. Couldn’t agree more!! You hit the nail on the head and it makes me crazy! Spending $300 to save $50 or whatever it is....no thanks. I crack up whenever these bloggers post about needing new swimwear, coverups and sandals for their beach trip when they just bought all that crap last year! C’mon, how many do you really need and EVERY time you go on a trip?! No....just NO!! Ahhhh make it stop!!!

  8. I could not agree with you more! Your blog is a refreshing change of pace from the endless (and derivative) "favorites" and dressing room selfies. At this point, your blog is almost a throw-back to what blogging USED to be all about - offering a glimpse into ones home, family, career, etc. Sharing that fostered connection or let others know they aren't alone in their struggle/choices/dilemmas.....And I mean this as the highest compliment. Keep doing you, because your readers like your dose of reality and ray of sunshine!

  9. Yes, yes, yes! I am really disgusted by the overall spend-spend-spend message by blogs I used to love. I don’t mind shopping posts if they are occasional and things the person really bought, but shopping posts/instagrams multiple times a week? No thanks. (This is maybe hypocritical given what I just said, but I also find it beyond irritating when the stuff is of obviously poor quality, basically disposable clothes. At least if you’re going to spend a fortune, buy something that looks nice and worthwhile!)

  10. Wise words! I do miss the blog days of ol' where there was a lot more connection with both readers and bloggers. I skip posts of people in dressing rooms for the most part. Ha. I can't tell you the last time that I was in a dressing room. Yikes.

  11. I totally agree-except at Christmas time;) Around the holidays I LOVE me a gift guide. Show me ALLL the ideas-duplicate them, link them. Show me where to spend. other than that-not so much.

  12. Preach it sister. If I never see another like it to know it link again, I will be a happy woman. I appreciate that they're getting that side hustle money but give me a break with the dressing room try-ons.

  13. If I have to see one more popped leg, weird half-step, toe pointed weird in a dressing room I will yack! OK, extreme but for real..it's nauseating! It is the reason.I no longer read the blog name that rymes with piper...haha!
And sadly I had to remove Honey We're Home...girl I know how to browse Nordstrom online too...don't need ya to devote a job to it. Makes me feel sad for them that lives revolve around posting clothes to "scoop up" for only $49..such a steal I bought two!

It's the reason I like your blog and happy you are back.
