Bike Tour and Weight Loss Tips Needed

Since I am trying not to injure myself and therefore gain another 7-8(!) pounds (gah!), I have turned to biking, which is good for shin-splinted folks such as myself.

Luckily, I can cruise out my front door, hit Cherokee Boulevard, and soon be on the Sequoyah Greenway, to Third Creek Greenway, to the Volunteer Landing Greenway. This takes me from my Bearden are all the way past downtown.

This is starting the Sequoyah Greenway- all the sudden you go from dense neighborhood, crowded Kingston Pike, then the middle of the woods. Heaven!

Third Creek Greenway follows the creek until it joins the Tennessee River.

Third Creek flows next to my high school- we tested it in Ecology class (wearing above the waist waders- hot), and it is super filthy. However, it looks pretty (hmmm, grommety yet attractive looking- reminds me a lot of people I went to high school with).

This is past Tyson Park, near UT campus.

And then you hit the Tennessee River.

Cruise down the river, across from Neyland Stadium, and through Volunteer Landing park.

Past downtown.
Then to a kind of shady former brownfield, where there was nothing to take pictures of. Plus, I wanted to scurry back to a more populated area.

You can cruise through the Agriculture Campus' gardens.
Then head home back along dirty old Third Creek.

It was a great sixteen miles! Easy too- perfect for a sleepy (hungover) workout!

Speaking of working out, in the sidebar is now a weekly workout plan, as well as a daily food diary. I need to hold myself accountable- these 8 pounds are going to fall off by themselves (damn it to all hell, I wish they would!). I know it's a bit tedious, so ignore it if so inclined.

Ya'll have any bright ideas for me? I normally don't focus on the scale numbers, but my clothes are tight (eek!).

Football Sadness

LAC and me modeling our Anthropologie outfits.

Sadly, the Vols lost to UCLA. Luckily the Dawgs (barely) beat the Gamecocks, so I am not completely bereft. Although it was tough. However, we had a great tailgate, which was super awesome, since I had friends in from California.
I also got to model my adorable birthday skirt present from Anthropologie, courtesy of Hubs.
Side note- I just got back from the lady doctor's and I have gained eight pounds since MARCH!!!! No more bacon crisps for me. HELP!!! Part of this is obviously water weight from the weekend, but the rest is "happy fat" and must be removed!!! Looks like it's back to daily weighing-in for me. Sigh.

Some Tailgate Recipes

First up- Fat Girl Sammies-

Similar to what I call Mississippi Krystals (those Swiss cheese, ham and poppy seed thingies which are another fantastic tailgating/shower recipe), Fat Girl Sammies are bite size, yet filling and substantial. Extremely helpful when you are tailgating all day (while drinking beer, bourbon, or in my case Saturday, Firefly).

They are so simple, yet amazingly delicious. This makes two trays. Take two packs of Hawaiian rolls, slice down the middle (slicing the rolls in half).

Heat your oven to 350 degrees.

Dice a pound of deli smoked turkey and a pound of deli sliced ham. Mix with 4 cups of shredded sharp cheddar (you can cheat and use pre-shredded cheese), and mustard and mayo to taste (and also to bind it all together.

In each individual roll, tear out some of the center, and stuff it with the ham/turkey mixture. Replace the top of the roll, cram them all in an aluminum baking tray, and bake for about 15 minutes.

Ready to be demolished by hungry tailgaters!!!

Next up is a Paula Deen recipe for Bacon Crisps.

They ain't purty, but they taste so good. Take a Club cracker, sprinkle some shredded parm, then wrap in half a piece of bacon. Place of a broiler tray and back at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Heaven!!
