Dear J.Crew

Please return to the era of healthy models doing things while looking fresh scrubbed and independently wealthy.  The following does not make me want to purchase clothes-

She looks like she is wearing the socks that shoe stores provide to give the effect of wearing a shoe with panty hose (or if you are not wearing proper socks?).  Here's Wallabies (J. Crew version) with the panty hose socks and a pencil skirt.  Blech.

There are no words.  I understand you are trying to push your new fashion forward image, but this is not Vogue, Elle, or even Teen Vogue.  You are a J. Crew catalog, and you need to start behaving as such.

"Cute!" I think.  Then I notice she is wearing shorts.  Ugh.

At least the website is not as bad.

I like this- and appropriately styled!
Then we get to this monstrosity which you can purchase for a billion dollars.
According to their relentless e-mails, if I spend the billion on this dress and can get free shipping!

  1. Evs often finds me shouting at my catalog "Where do YOU work, J.Crew?"

Shorts as part of a suit? Are you shitting me?

Even back in the day when they had the adorable, non-hunchback models they would style classic suits with hot pink satin pumps.

    Um. No. Just... No.

  4. Amen! My catalog arrived yesterday and I didn't finish looking through it before I tossed it in the recycling bin. Good things were happening there for a while...so, what happened? And, they're outpricing themselves for their once intended market.

  5. Ooh, I have a $$$-saving idea. If you have upcoming nuptials but have to work within a budget, force one of your bridesmaids to purchase that last dress. See? Now you don't have to purchase a multi-tiered cake! She's a great look-alike stand-in!

  6. I totally agree! J. Crew lost me years ago. And, who can wear those shorts to work?

  7. Oh I disagree I love these pictures. I think the style is amazing. To each their own I suppose =) Bu then again I am just becoming a Jcrew fan and have not been a long time fan. SO had I been a long time fan I would understand the disappointment of a brand changing their image.

  8. I can't decide if those nude socks or more or less offensive than the white socks with pumps they featured in the last catalogue.

    Ridiculous.

  9. The socks thing they have been trying to push for the last year just pisses me off. I mean really. It isn't cute. You can keep trying but I'm not going to like it or wear it. You would think they would give it a go and when people didn't like it they would stop. Let's talk about how they actually make money off their shipping bc it is so expensive. I worked corporate retail. I know how much shipping cost and they are making about $9 off every $10 they charge you. I have loved J Crew for years but I can't afford their shipping much less their clothes anymore.

  10. I agree! The models look sickly. And they have become so over priced. I was so irritated with that catalog.

  11. What is it with J. Crew's love of hideous socks? First it was that terrible socks with heels styling, and now this lame excuse of a sock that looks like one of my grandmother's knee highs that has rolled down to her ankle. No thanks.

  12. That IS monstrosity! I mean, really - it doesn't even do anything for that model - scare bear!! What would it do for us 'normal' people??

Also - ew - those socks are gross nasty.

  15. you are so right about the sock, we don't have J.Crew in Europe so no problem and no temptations :)

  16. I totally agree! Why do their models look so slouchy? Why can't they find a hairbrush? Why do they look drunk-to-the-point-of-incontinence? Why would that make me want to buy their clothes.

It keeps me up at night. I've still got chinos and tees and sweaters that I bought in the 80s when their clothes were made to last!
