I Have Lost My Ever-loving Mind

I'm having a sit-down New Year's Eve dinner for 24 people.  In our little rancher.  Friday night.  When I work all this week, including Friday.

Hmmmm.

Yesterday I went to Cost Plus World Market, Carolina Pottery, HomeGoods, Target, A.C. Moore and Tuesday Morning in search of 12 cheap gold chargers.  No luck.  I try other locations today after work.

Moving on to more interesting and appetizing topics- the Menu!

An assortment of cheeses, nuts and olives to start
Baked Fontina

Herb Roasted Pork Tenderloin
Frank Stitt's Old Fashioned Potato Gratin
Butternut Squash and Arugula Salad

Homemade Chocolate Bark

Now, for the almost daily Spice and Sass reader poll.  Hubs came up with the brilliant idea of serving some sort of carbohydrate laden munchie around midnight to help slow down the champagne consumption.  He suggested sausage balls or their ilk.  MOH suggested a ton of Krystals (passed on a silver tray, naturally).  What do y'all think??

  1. I like the Krystal idea. It's like at the end of weddings when everyone is hungry and the hot dog truck pulls up! I sure hope you're telling all of your guests to bring a bottle of Champagne!

  2. I think whatever would create less work for you is what you should do. If you can buy something, like Krystal burgers, instead of adding one more thing to cook I'd go for it!

  4. Fun! I found my gold chargers at walmart at christmas time. They came in a back of 4. I've also seen them at big craft/fabric stores.

    Love the krystals idea!

    Good luck! Happy New Year!

  5. Wish you were closer - I'd have 24 gold chargers on your doorstep tonight! We had them at our wedding. I found another bride to pass most of them on to but I've still got quite a few in the garage.

As for the midnight snack, I agree with Randall, whatever is the least amount of work for you. If you can make something ahead or keep some Krystal burgers warm in the oven until midnight, that should be great. Just make sure you're sipping champagne at midnight and not running around the kitchen.

Your party is going to be fabulous and the menu sounds delish. Can't wait to see pictures!

  9. Our Target still had a ton of gold chargers yesterday, so that's another possibility!

I definitely vote for Krystals! One less thing to cook, and it would be a fun, unexpected surprise! Good luck w/ the party!

  10. Wal-Mart for the chargers, my mom was there yesterday and they are half-off. I LOVE Krystals and if your friends are like mine, we've all had our fill of sausage balls already this holiday season! I'm sure the party will be great! Plus, getting the Krystals will make your life easier :)

  11. I think Hubs has the right idea... Sausage balls or something similar would be a great idea!
You are crazy to plan this... but I can't wait to see how you pull it off!
I may be hosting Friday night at my house too, but won't be doing dinner, just apps and champagne, and I don't work Friday!

  12. If you have a Z Gallerie around, they also had gold chargers for 70% off this weekend. I think they were a little over $1 each!

    Good luck... sounds like fun!!

  13. These are fantastic and simple enough that you can put your husband to work the night before or earlier in the day...

  14. SO cute!! I can't wait to see how everything turns out - you're a hostess goddess - love it! And I think the Krystal idea is ADORBS! You could even make your own little sliders for cheap!

  15. So... I just read everyone's comments and see their point - it would be one less thing for you to do! Homemade or store bought it's a CUTE idea! :)

  16. Wal-mart has the chargers for $2.50...I saw them this morning.
I think you should get a large tray of nuggets from Chick-fil-a and then just heat up pans of Sister Shubert rolls and have chicken minis!!!
AND in a prior post you had contemplated buying a Dyson DC28 Animal...I got one on Sunday on sale at Lowe's and it is wonderful. It almost sucked the varnish right off the floor :O)

  17. I love the Krystal's idea but would they get soggy by then? I love the Chick-fil-a with sister shubert's idea!

Our Dollar Tree had gold chargers. Dollar General might have them as well. Pier one had them and they should be on sale by now.

  18. You have lost your mind, woman!
Another vote for Chick Fil A here! I think the nuggets will keep better than CFA.

  19. If wal-mart or target doesn't have the chargers, hobby lobby did have some. Have a great time celebrating!
