Guilty Pleasures

1. Any sort of television program or movie set in a high school environment.  This started early with my Saturday morning Saved By the Bell fix, and has run unabated ever since.  Monday night was an all-star as it included a viewing of Easy A (go see it!) topped off with Gossip Girl.  Heavenly!

2.  Warm chocolate cake (the really rich kind which makes my teeth hurt) mixed with cold milk.  Together, all mixed up in the bowl and eaten with a spoon.

3.  Lauren Conrad's series of books.  They're so juicy y'all!  I download them to my ipod, and listen while exercising or cleaning.  Sigh.  I really do feel embarrassed about this one.

4.  Blogging and twitter used to be a guilty pleasure, but now I feel pretty aboveboard on the whole social networking thing.

5.  Hmmm, what else?  Oooh, this one is super country, but I love a saltine with a dab of butter.  In college, an acquaintance who's own father described as "dumb as rocks, but he sure can haul stuff", busted me eating my cracker and butter treat.  When he started laughing at me, and teasing me about East Tennessee I knew that my snack was redneck as all get out.  I still love it though.

6.  Going home during lunch and taking a quick power nap.  I am a huuuuuggggeeeee napper.  It is one of the things in life I miss most of high school, college, and law school.  Time for napping is integral, and should be incorporated into the American work week.

So your turn!  Alert me to some new things to enjoy and feel guilty about.  I promise I won't judge!

  1. NapNapNapNapNap. Sleep is my biggest guilty pleasure. Preferably from about 3 a.m. till noon.

Also: Law and Order SVU. It's like crack, especially when it's 1 a.m. and I'm not sleepy and T's in bed so can't judge how many episodes in a row I watch.

In high school my comfort "food" was A1 sauce poured onto a saucer and eaten with a fork, by pressing the utensil into the sauce and then licking it all off. Spoons didn't do it for me; it had to be a fork. Freak.

  2. In Texas, your guilty snack would be a tortilla with butter! Or a tortilla chip with butter! My mom wouldn't let me do that at Mexican restaurants when I was young and I hadn't yet acquired a taste for salsa, so I dipped my chips in water! So refined!

    Warm oozie cake is delicious!
The cracker thing is hysterical. Trust me, there are stranger eating habits.

  4. Kate, yes, the tortilla or tortilla chip with butter! I um, still do that.

I'm with you on the any high school environment TV shows. It's lik crack. Also, it's my way of pretending that I'm still young and cool, when in all honesty, we all know that is not true.

And chick flicks that I've seen 1000 times. If The Notebook is on TV, I MUST watch it. Yes, I'm a sap.

Oh, and I love cookies 'n cream ice crea, just to scoop the cookies out. <---Can't belive I just admitted that!!

  5. Yep, I'm with you on #6. I really wish employers in this country would embrace the siesta.

  6. Don't feel too bad about the butter on crackers. My whole family (we're from the bottom of Mississippi) eats that. Dad was telling me the other day they used to do that instead of eating bread at the dinner table.

  7. I am totally with you on the TV programs set in high school. There's just something about them that suck me in, the more unrealistic the more I love them!

P.S. Kate- I also dipped my tortilla chips in water,so weird. I can't believe my parents let me do that in public!

  8. Now I want to go out and get the Lauren Conrad books :)

And ya know those packets of rectangle butter crackers you get at restaurants (or my grandfather's retirement home for example)… I totally put a dab of butter on those!! We Tennessee girls represent!

  9. I haven't had saltines with butter on them in years, but you aren't alone there! My guilty pleasure is eating store-bought icing straight from the tub. No one ever sees me do this; it's just too shameful...
