Odds and Ends

1.  I don't care about watching stuff in HD at all.  I find the channels confusing, and like to stick with my normal order.  However, this drives Hubs nuts, so whenever I hear him coming I quickly switch the channel to HD, reminiscent of when I used to be on alert for parentals while watching Salt and Pepa's "Let's Talk About Sex" video in 5th grade.  Last night, though, I made no attempt to switch to HD while watching th Biggest Loser.  Hubs started to complain, then took one look at the jiggling as the weigh-ins commenced.  Yep, no HD for BL necessary.  Some things should be a little blurry in my book.

2.  What is up with Brad and Angie?  There was such a hullabaloo then crickets.  I guess that is an excellent PR machine at work.  Remember during last year's awards season, when Ryan Secrest had to chase after them?  I think that was kind of dick of Brad and Angie- the man is just doing his job!  It's not like they are strangers to the PR machine- remember those pics of them on an isolated Kenyan beach that a paparazzi magically was there to capture? Yeah right.

3.  I really detest people talking about politics in social situations.  I find it so distasteful and tend to shut down when it happens.

4.  This teen pregnancy moment that is happening is very entertaining to me.  Our high school had a daycare and a teen parenting class.  Abby Dids took it a few times (or was it just once?- correct me girl!), although obviously while a teen, she was not a parent.  Maybe that is why she is such a good mama now!

And that's pretty much what I have been contemplating.  Any deep thoughts going on with y'all?

  1. I'm a highly political person, as are most of my closest friends and loved ones. When we get together it's the natural extension of conversation because it's what we care about. That said, not every moment is as appropriate as those for talking politics. Recognizing those moments is just as critical as being able to articulate your points, in my book.

  2. Maggie- I agree, but one of the most important parts of your sentence is "closest friends and loved ones". I was referrring to a broader circumstance- like at my Christmas Eve of strangers this year, when there was a conversation about how did Obama dare waste our taxpayers money by taking Air Force One to Hawaii.

  3. I am the same way with the HD channels and my husband COMPLAINS. I just don't care about HD.

I cringe and remove myself from political talk in social situations too. I just don't enjoy it. I just find it inappropriate.

  4. Speaking of the teen pregnancy "moment" going on -- did you catch the Pregnancy Pact on Lifetime this weekend...it was tragic (but yet, awesome in that Lifetime movie train wreck kind of way!).

  5. I agree with not talking about politics in group settings. Some people just can't handle it and get WAY too defensive. It's right up there with money and politics.

  6. Totally, Samma... when it's bad, it is BAD, isn't it?

And for what it's worth, I always forget about HD. :-)

  7. I agree with keeping politics out of the conversation, especially with people you don't know very well. When you delve into politics, sex or religion, it's bound to take an ugly turn unless your amongst your closest friends. ;)

  8. I agree about politics in a social situation. I work in politics and my husband and I are very political. Yet I hate it when people bring it up in big social settings. Nothing is worse then someone bringing up politics to me at Church. It is so innappropriate. I agree with Maggie, it is just as important to understand when not to talk politics as it is how to talk politics.

Oh and I don't get HD either!

  9. When we moved in together, one of our biggest disagreements was HD and DVR... Evs didn't think the DVD was worth the $ and I felt the same way about HD. No one won that battle and we pay for both... Although now Evs can't live without the DVR and I still couldn't care less about HD... Therefore I feel I've achieved moral victory.

  10. I've never cared a bit about HD either! My husband is convinced I'm lying when I say it doesn't matter to me, but I'm totally not.

  11. Ha! I did take it because i thought i wanted to get a credit but i do have to say i loved it. Felt really sorry for those kids thoough because no matter how you look at it, it is just unfair to any child to be born to a child. And I watched that crazy Pregnancy Pact on lifetime last week, wow...that movie was something else! Might make your list of ones to watch!! Baby Gray is due in 11 1/2 weeks but doc thinks she'll be here in more like 9 or 10! So exciting! Got your sweet message checking on all of us, you are the best:) Love and miss you...
