Adventures in Fantasy Catalog Living

So time for another installment of catalog people who I wish to be.  (That was an awkward sentence).  Please see above, from Talbots.  This is what I wear to work.  Black suit and black shifts.  Closed toe heels.  However, I look instead dowdy.  Note to self- start doing my hair more often, and lose 100 lbs in order to look like a polished and chic lady attorney.

Above is what Talbots thinks I should wear on a weekend getaway.  I agree.  I think I would look far more dashing cruising in my convertible to some unknown destination in the hat or scarf as opposed to yoga pants and a fleece or hoodie.  I'm an adult- why do I not dress like above? P.S. I am in love with that bow-collar coat, yet distress that I am so old I want to live in Talbots catalog.

LL Bean Signature- if I wore the below outfit I would look super conservative/boring.  however, in my imagination my legs are the length of my entire current body, and this looks fab.

Oh, I'm flat chested in my imagination as well, making clothes hang on me like a dream, and enabling me to wear clothes that make me look like a harlot in real life.
From Garnet Hill, tra la, just going to put my enormous pile of super cosy cashmere sweaters in my gorgeous antique armoire. The charm bracelet and leopard belt?  Stealing this look asap.

And then Boden.  The ultimate in colorful British catalog life fantasies.

No explanation needed on these, methinks.

Well, I hope y'all have a lovely weekend!  Mine is full of the opera, football, (apparently we are having a party) and planting pansies. Maybe I will wear slightly inappropriate but adorable clothes (and speak with a British accent?).

  1. Ello! (That was my failed attempt to say Hello in a british accent via writing!). I def could live in a Boden Catolog...oh the things I could wear and do. And I have to say I am flabbergasted (sp?) that Talbots has that attractive stuff?! I am stunned!! Don't be jealous of my weekend, princess dress up birthday party, movie night with fam and dinner!

  2. Talbots is actually starting a rebranding campaign to no longer be where your grandmother shops-get ready for some cuter opitions. Have a great weekend!

  3. Oh my goodness. Your post outlined my exact thoughts when I look at magazines. But I am rediculously short (5' with shoes on) so my thoughts are usually "is this gonna hang down to my ankles?" or "will this make me look like a kid playing dress up?" -- usually both are true.

But honestly -- good one with this post!!

    Have a good weekend!

  4. Thank you for this post!! Hilarious! I think the same thing when I look at ads..."oh those pants are beautiful, oh probably because the model's legs are as long as I am"

  5. You featured my favorite catalogs of late! I don't think we're old to imagine ourselves in a Talbot's catalog - Talbot's is just turning it's brand around and looking much more sophisticated these days. (At least that's how I justify it!) I planted pansies in our flower boxes a couple of days ago and placed the mums on the front porch. Ready for fall!

  6. I am with you on the suits and the flat chested thing. I rarely have to wear a suit, but I think it makes me look ridiculous. I like the new talbots, but where is my grandmother going tomshop now? She is very stylish, but I can't see her wearing any of the above.

  7. You’re HILAROIUS! “lose 100 pounds” “in my imagination my legs are the length of my entire current body” SO true! I love these choices though and come ON, you always wear white dress shirts to bed right? I actually kind of want to start doing that now – it’s CUTE. One note – I AM flast chested so clothes do hang on me… BUT there’s some cutie cute styles that I don’t fill out and thus can’t wear like hmmm I don’t know, swimsuits? So unattractive! LOL BTW – I posted about the dealership yesterday… crazy! Would love to know what you think!

  8. OK, that white coat with the boots? Swoon. How come I never look like that in coats? Oh yeah, because I'm five feet tall (er, short?). Sigh. I am a bit disturbed as well that I've reached a point in my life where I'd like to live in a Talbots catalog.
