Changes in the Blog

It's cold and rainy.  I was looking for a soup recipe that I had made before, and got lost in the rabbit hole of my own blog archives (how very narcissistic of me).

I was struck by an interesting change.  Well, two changes.

1.  I used to blog a lot more, although I am getting back in the habit of blogging more often.  An exhausting pregnancy, then full time job with a baby got me off my game a bit.

2.  I used to get a lot more comments.  Like quadruple the amount daily that I now receive.  Is this common?  Is it because I scaled back on my social media, or because people tweet so much more now?  I don't know.

It's really interesting to me, because the same amount of people read my blog, but just have less to say.  Now, there is a definite possibility that I said all the interesting things rattling around in my brain in the first couple years of blogging.  So, sorry for the intrusion to the mechanics of blogging, just wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar thing.

  1. I cannot for the life of me figure out why some of my posts receive many comments and other receive zero.

I've been reading for a long time and have tried to comment on your 2013 posts to encourage you to keep writing!

  2. I'm always intrigued when the posts that I spend a ton of time on or think are really interesting get very little comments, and then I'll get a lot of comments on the most mundane posts. Who can ever predict?!

  3. So often, I hear "I would have commented, but I was on my phone/iPad and it's such a pain." Grrr... Google/Apple feud!

I think, too, so many people have been reading the same blogs for years now, and don't want to come across as the stalkers who comment on the same people All The Time. Weird, but true.

  4. I've seen a drop off in the number of comments I get as well but I'm sure mine is attributable to my sporadic blogging. I know I comment on less blogs than I used to. I don't read as many blogs as I once did and often I'm reading quickly from my phone or iPad. I'm much more likely to leave a comment when I can type on a keyboard as opposed to a touch screen. I try to leave comments on my favorite blogs(yours included!) in hopes they'll keep posting.

  5. I have no answers for you because I have the same issues. My thing is that I get more and more page views a day as the weeks go on, but commenting doesn't increase nearly as much. And the commenters are usually the same people. Really, we just want a little dialogue, you know? If I wanted to feel like I was talking to an empty room I'd just talk to my husband (womp, womp).... Kidding, he listens. Sorta.

  6. I agree. Some of my followers no longer blog, so I guess that means maybe they don't read me anymore? Who knows? I blog stalk ou. Duh.

  7. I try to comment here as much as I can because I'm just so happy that you're blogging! I actually made a little mini-resolution a few weeks ago to start commenting on the blogs I read again. That's what I did when I first started and commenting was at its highest. And let's face it... comments are encouraging. Mostly. :)

I read from my phone on google reader (though I'm trying to use bloglovin') and if I have time I will click through and comment. But I don't always have time. And I agree with katie... a lot of people who used to comment also blogged and now they don't blog anymore.

  8. I definitely think the drop-off in comments is due to so many people reading from iPhones and iPads. I'm majorly guilty of this, and I've been trying to mark posts I want to comment on as unread and then go back and comment when I bust out my laptop at night.

I also think Twitter and IG have taken over a bit.

  9. I love reading your blog and the content. For me, I'm usually feeding the baby as I read on the ipad so it's difficult to type out a comment. I need to make more of an effort to come back and comment. Also if you notice a lot of page views on your chilli recipe page, that would be me. We make it often. I need to just print it out!

  10. While I don't have a blog of my own, I love reading yours! I don't comment that often on any of the blogs that I follow because I am not sure if the blogger actually cares what I think since we don't even know each other :) Keep up the great posts, I love seeing the improvement to your home and I promise to comment more! xoxo!

  11. I hear you! I blog less, get fewer comments and am just now getting back to blogging more, reading more, etc. Pregnancy definitely made me boring and I didn't want it to be all about Beckett but then again my life kinda is so it's hard!!

  12. I certainly miss the comments, though I am one of those so guilty of reading and not commenting. I've also read the same blogs for so long that I feel crazy commenting on some of them. I need to get over that!

  13. Where have I been?? I'm somehow just stumbling upon your blog (via Natasha at Hello! Happiness... we've been blog friends for a long time now... love her). Anyway, your blog is adorable - I may be here awhile catching up! Ha! I think that everyone in the "blog world" comments a lot less these days just because we are all so freaking busy and although we want to comment, we start to and get pulled in a million other directions. Story.of.my.life. Admittedly, I've done a pretty awful job here lately of replying to comments on my own blog and that drives me really crazy!!

  14. I am not really sure since I am "new" to blogging. (I just get happy if i get one comment.) I do love you blog and just adore your home. You make me feel good about my "colorful" home since you seem to love color just as much as I do;)
