- Wanting- something new for breakfast. I'm green smoothied out, don't like cereal, want something more protein-packed than oatmeal, and have been ingesting too many KIND bars for my budget. Suggestions?
- Reading- Bebe Day by Day. I loved Bringing Up Bebe when DH was a newborn, and am enjoying this little refresher, picked up at the library. The illustrations by Frenchwoman Margaux Motin are so charming. I did some intense research (light googling) and loved some of her comics, like this one.
In case you are wondering "ca marche pas" means it didn't work. I know the feeling, sister.
- Dreading the pile of work on my kitchen table. Reading legal documents with little sleep is a beast. At least I get to do it in yoga pants.
- Delving into stacks upon stacks of old Junior League and other community cookbooks that one of my parents' friends passed off to me. I feel like I have won the lottery! Morgan does not share this sentiment. I'm so intrigued to try this recipe for beef tips that involves 7-UP, cream of mushroom soup, onion soup mix and strict instructions to not up the oven door for 4 hours. I know what we're having for dinner tonight! Ha, the thing is Morgan would probably love that, and I will be delving into the freezer for something edible. I really can't resist- DO NOT OPEN OVEN DOOR has me too intrigued. What would happen? I have to find out.
- Bummed about the return of cooler temps and rain. We have been spending the witching hour outside this week, and it makes for a happy toddler, baby and mama. BRING ON SPRING!
Okay, off to corral children. Apologies in advance for my disjointed ramblings.
I love your ramblings. I want to make those beef tips :)
ReplyDeleteÇA MAARRRCHE PAAAAAAS << what I want to say when our system goes down at work. Love those cute cartoons!
ReplyDeleteFor breakfast, I'm an egg fanatic. I tried doing little 'baby quiches' (basically scrambled eggs in muffin tins) and they were delicious. Bake a bunch at once and then heat one up in the microwave and you're golden.
I'm cracking up at that recipe. It's so insistent that you DO NOT OPEN THE OVEN DOOR. And why does it have to sit for half an hour? Such mystery. Please let us know how this all turns out.
ReplyDeleteHow about quiche for breakfast? If you make one at the beginning of the week, it would get you through the week. I'm sure a fritatta would be healthier but the crust is the best part. Just toss in some extra veggies and surely that makes up for the crust, yes?
Nothing better than old-school cookbooks. The writing style (and ingredients ... 7Up!) crack me up.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big egg girl for breakfast. 2 hardboiled eggs and you're not hungry for hours! Plus the prep is super easy with a babe... :)
ReplyDeleteI make a similar recipe called "no peek" beef stew but no 7up, its red wine instead. The beef is super tender and delicious especially over egg noodles!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to tell us what happens when you open the oven door!! I must know!
ReplyDeleteI really want to make those beef tips now! I bet they are actually really good. For breakfast we like baked oatmeal w/blueberries and I add a scoop of protein powder or a DIY egg muffin w/Canadian bacon.
ReplyDeleteI think the "don't open the door" way of cooking is similar in theory to crockpot cookery. The oven is set at such a low temp that opening the door is like losing all the heat if you keep lifting the lid when you slow cook. hope the meals are yummy
