One of My Favorite Meals

Keep the questions coming ladies!  I am loving picking my own brain to figure out my answers to your fun and insightful questions.  Can't wait to hear more!

Someone asked me what my favorite meal is, which is tres difficult to answer.  I mean, I have favorite meals for a Sunday night, favorite meals for the beach, favorite meals for the cocktail flu, favorite meals for a late fall night, et al.  So, without further introduction, one of my top five favorite meals ever (category: summer, genre: perfect for when you don't care that you are swollen as a tick the next day).
Mmmmmm, it's kind of hard to see the bacon under all that lettuce, but it's there and plentiful.  I love a good BLT- probably due to my love of all things pork, but it really is the perfect combination of juicy from the maters, salty from the bacon, and crunchy lettuce.  Then you gotta add a touch of mayo to make everything stick just right (I know there are mayonnaise-haters out there.  I am simply going to state that you are wrong, and a smidge of mayo is integral to a BLT.  Please feel free to battle is out in the comments section with me.)

So some famous Benton's bacon-

Dixie was very interested in that skillet, and promised to be very good, never ever naughty again, if she could pretty please have a piece of bacon!
Henry and I weren't buying it.

Some home grown tomatoes (also known as reason #517 why I love summer)-

Homemade bread from the Farmer's Market-
Slightly toasted, with said smidge of Duke's, and I was ready to go.  It took all of my measly willpower to put this on a plate, instead of eating it over the sink.

Oh, that is pure heaven. . .

  1. oh honey, a BLT is my favorite sandwich in the whole wide world. I love them so much, I bought my healthy food lovin hubby to my side. There is nothing better than crispy bacon, fresh tomatoes, and mayo. Yes I'm there with you girl...bring me some mayo.

I adore fresh tomatoes. I love to each them with just a lil salt and pepper, that is a lunch for me.

In our new house, we have veggie gardens already built, I can't wait to grow tomatoes.

  4. Mmmm, there is nothing wrong with mayo. It's the best thing ever. People who don't like mayo--sheesh. I loves it. This is probably also why I need a personal trainer. Now, don't hate me for messing with a good thing, I love me a good ol' BLT, but, I have also recently become a fan of the BLT with a bit of avocado. Yum!

  5. Nooooooooooooooooo Mayooooooooooooooooooo!

My BLT rolls Daddy Jim Style (that would be my grandpa - champion tomato grower and possessor of massive green thumb) - with Dijonaise! I know, I know, there's mayo in there somewhere but I choose Ignorance!

  7. I am with you on the mayo and with Shabby Princess on the avocado - it's a BLTA for me, please! What is this Duke's mayo you speak of? Never heard of it. I'm a Hellman's (Best's depending on where you live) girl myself. NO MIRACLE WHIP. EVER.

  9. Ya know, I have hated bacon most of my life but just in the last year I have had a change of heart and really gotten into bacon in some things. I think a BLT actually sounds really good so I'll have to try one!! :)

  10. I couldn't agree with you more about mayo (Dukes of course). BLT's are an all-time favorite summer must have. I am also totally on board with your love for all things pork, which is probably why I have to be on a diet right now with no sight of a BLT in my future-ha!

  13. I'd try this with my homemade olive oil mayo, but every other white substance out of a jar scares me. But now I want one of these delicious sandos, so you won!

  14. oh man, i LOVE BLTs! Growing up we had our own garden (mostly for veggies for my mom's restaurant) and my parents made us work in the humidity all summer with them. Once we were done, my mom would pick a few tomatoes and make us a BLT with sweet tea. SO yummy! Def. reminds me of childhood!

There is a little taco place in Atl (Tin Lizzys?) that you may have heard of while living here. They have an awesome BLT taco. I have no idea what their "special sauce" they put on it is, but it's heaven!

  15. Ladies- I agree with the avocado love- we call them a BLAT around here- even better with a fried egg for a BLEAT. Mmmmmm.

Melissa, Duke's mayo is a Southern mayonaise- I like Hellman's too, but prefer Duke's because it's less sweet (and also does not contain HFCS).

Kate- I think you are in luck, because Dijonaise does not contain mayo. I think it's just a creamier mustard (made creamier by a touch of oil, rather than oil and eggs).
